Vienna’s large contingent of men were divided into two teams for the day, ‘Bump’ and ‘Grind’ to take on Prague Hibernians and Slovak Shamrocks.
Bump got off to a perfect start with victory over Slovaks, while Grind were fortunate to come away with a one-point win over Prague.
However, Grind found their form just in time for the Vienna derby as they stormed to a massive 3-15 to 1-1 win and book their place in the final.
Prague Hibernians overcame Bump in a tense final group game to deny the hosts a second all-Vienna final of the season.
The teams split the first two matches, one win apiece, giving the sides plenty to play for in the third and final encounter. In the end it was Vienna Twerk who stood out in the final match and took the series 2:1.
After a closely fought battle earlier in the afternoon, the men’s final was set to be a thriller. However, Vienna Grind had other ideas and came flying out of the blocks in the first half, scoring point after point, and Prague were struggling to cope with the accuracy of Darren Gleeson and the power of Aussie duo Trent Butterworth and Pablo Caldarola.
There were some nerves late in the second half as the Hibernians scored a pair of goals, but the early dominance proved to be more than enough for Grind as they ran out 0-11 to 2-1 winners.
